Who Are the Teamsters?
We have chosen the International Brotherhood of Teamsters to Represent us.
Our local union is Teamsters 519.
Why are we unionizing, anyways?
See our About Page for more information on the Teamsters.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
A union is an organization that groups workers together to bargain collectively with management for higher pay, better benefits, a better working environment, and fair treatment.
-
We have strength in numbers. As one collective unit, we have more bargaining power when we ask for better pay, benefits, and working conditions. Having a reputable union on our side also means we have better job protection and grievance procedures, ensuring that discipline is fair. Forming a contract means that we get to have a voice about how we are treated in our workplace.
-
A contract can take multiple months, to possibly over a year to reach an agreement. Your negotiation committee is not open to accepting anything worse than what we currently have. We want to ensure that we are looking at each article carefully and representing our team to the best of our ability- know that a good contract takes time.
-
Strikes are a last resort and often require a democratic vote by the membership; the vast majority of union contracts are settled without any work stoppage.
-
We will put out surveys on upcoming articles to get the general consensus from the team before we make any decisions.
